In a bid to promote blood donation and save lives during emergencies, the Synjuk Ki Seng Samla Shnong Ri-Bhoi Sepngi organised a blood donation drive in Patharkhmah yesterday.
The event was held in collaboration with the Blood Bank of Nongpoh Civil Hospital and Nongpoh branch of HDFC Bank.
Twelve youths donated blood, setting an inspiring example for others to follow suit and contribute to saving lives in times of need.
The doctor in charge of the blood bank, Dr P Tariang, emphasised the critical importance of voluntary blood donation in saving precious lives. Prior to the blood donation event, Dr Tariang said that such drives have the potential to address the urgent need for blood in various medical emergencies.
She particularly praised the participation of youths in donating blood and noted that, with a highway running through the district, there are often road accidents in Ri-Bhoi where there usually arises a need for blood transfusions.
Additionally, Dr Tariang stressed the importance of blood donation for many pregnant women during childbirth.
