Representatives of the Ri-Bhoi People’s Council (RBPC) and the Meghalaya People’s Social Organisation (MPSO) met today with the Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) regarding concerns they have over the varsity’s recruitment practices.
The RBPC and MPSO voiced their apprehensions following complaints from numerous youths in Meghalaya who have complained that advertisements for jobs in USTM are only published in Assam-based newspapers.
The pressure group representatives challenged the USTM Chancellor over this and urged for ads to be published in Meghalaya newspapers to provide equal opportunities for local candidates. They also requested that job interviews not be conducted on Sundays, given that this is a religious day for Meghalaya’s Christian community.
Furthermore, they requested the Chancellor that USTM felicitate guests and dignitaries with local ryndia shawls rather than Assamese gamchas.
