Early detection of Covid-19 infection can help save lives in Ri-Bhoi, Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah said today as cases have spiked over the last two days.
There were 260 cases reported from Ri-Bhoi yesterday and another 68 today. Part of this sharp increase is because of an expansion in the number of tests being carried out.
Speaking to this reporter today, Kurbah said that the district administration and Health Department are fully seized of the challenge that Covid-19 poses and have jointly decided to strengthen the compulsory testing regime for all residents of the district.
“We entrusted the Community Covid-19 Management Teams along with health experts and other officials to conduct random tests in the villages of Ri-Bhoi. Therefore, the cases drastically increased,” Kurbah said, adding that people should become alarmed by the news of higher numbers.
Compulsory testing is required because there has been a general reluctance on the part of many to get tested, which has resulted in lives being lost, she stated. The DC also encouraged people to get themselves vaccinated and not be swayed by false anti-vaccination rumours.
