Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today urged people to refrain from making statements that would strain the situation between Assam and Meghalaya.
His appeal came a day after Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Chief Executive Member (CEM), Tuliram Ronghang termed the Khasi-Pnar inhabitants of Mukroh as “illegal settlers”.
“I think these statements are not appropriate at this point in time. Obviously leaders and individuals will make comments. What is important is the leadership at the state level, in Assam and the leadership here in Meghalaya. We both speaking to each other and the statements made by us is what is the important statements and what matters,” Sangma said.
He added that the Assam CM had also made their stand clear about the incident.
Sangma reiterated that the seven BOPs that the government is setting up are very much within the jurisdiction of Meghalaya and not in areas of differences. He said there is a very clear understanding between Assam and Meghalaya and that they do not want to complicate the situation.
