Shillong, Aug 22: Six persons from Nongstoiñ, West Khasi Hills, have alleged they were assaulted and robbed of Rs 5 lakh cash, mobile phones and documents in Bongaigaon district, Assam.
In an FIR lodged at Jogighopa Police Station, District Bongaigaon, the complainants — Jewel Lyngdoh Nonglait, Ebarlin Wanniang, Kolestin Marbaniang, Dinningwell Sangriang, Kestarbarlin Wanniang and Hopesharland Nongbak — stated that on August 19, 2026, at about 6 am, they left Nongstoiñ for Dudhnoi and Krishnai, Goalpara, in a Maruti Celerio bearing registration No. ML-06B-2023 owned and driven by Jewel Lyngdoh Nonglait, for purchasing a second-hand truck.
According to the FIR, when they reached Paikan, Goalpara, two middlemen travelling in a Maruti WagonR, known to Hopesharland Nongbak, approached them and informed that a truck was available for purchase at Kabaytari, Bongaigaon. They proceeded to Kabaytari where a used truck was shown, but they did not agree to purchase it.
The middlemen then told them they would show another truck at another location and asked them to follow. Accordingly, they were led towards Kherpuji, Doloni Bill Hillside jungle and made to stop their vehicles on a secluded village hillside road.
After a few minutes, four to five persons arrived at the spot in a grey-coloured Tata Tiago and stopped in front of their vehicles. Along with the two middlemen, they allegedly threatened to kill them while displaying daos and a pistol, assaulted them and forcibly took away cash amounting to Rs 5 lakh, mobile phones, documents and keys of their vehicle, before fleeing.
The complainants stated they sustained injuries in the assault and informed police, following which a police team arrived, rescued them and recovered their vehicle.
They have requested police to register a case under appropriate provisions, investigate, identify and apprehend the persons involved including the two middlemen, and recover the looted cash and belongings.
