Vice President of the Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF), Lankupar Sawkmie was killed when a two-wheeler he was riding skidded near Demseiniong, here today.
Sawkmie is a resident of Mawlai Syllaikariah. Sources said the incident occurred at around 1:30 am while he was returning home. The impact of the fall was severe that even his helmet was dislodged.
Sawkmie was rushed to Bethany Hospital in Shillong but succumbed to his injuries at around 11 am.
The news of Sawkmie’s untimely demise has sent shockwaves across the region.
The RBYF has expressed their profound grief and said it is a loss for the community.
FKJGP President Dundee Cliff Khongsit, KSU President Lambokstarwell Marngar, former RBYF President Banbuhai Makdoh, KSU North Khasi Hills District Preident Ferdynald Kharkamni and others have condoled the sudden demise of Sawkmie.
The leaders described Sawkmie as an honest and dedicated leader who consistently demonstrated deep concern for the welfare of the Khasi Jaiñtia people.
Sawkmie’s funeral will be held on June 5 at the cemetery of Mawkhar Presbyterian Church in Lawmali at 2 pm.
