The cabinet will meet to decide on the roster system and its implementation likely next week.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma who chaired a meeting with over 13 NGOs in Tura, told reporters that within a few days the cabinet will meet to discuss on the roster system following which a decision will be taken.
The meeting today with organisations in the Garo Hills region was on the roster system. He stated that most of the organisations are satisfied with the presentation.
Sangma said queries were raised on the government’s decision to constitute an expert committee to review the reservation policy. “We have told them that in a democracy it is important for the government to give ample space for people to express their concerns,” he said.
The Chief Minister said the members were apprised that after the all party committee, the decision was taken by the government on their suggestion to constitute the expert committee to review the reservation policy.
He said the expert committee will be asked to hold consultations with stakeholders, visit to different areas and take opinions of people, examine the background of the reservation policy at the state and national level and to submit a report of their findings to the government.
