The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Meghalaya Police today recovered key evidence, including a missing gold chain of Raja Raghuvanshi, who was murdered in Sohra last month.
The SIT, led by Sub-Inspector Anthony Khongsit and SI Karan Pachua, with the assistance of officers and men from Alkapuri police station, recovered jewellery of Sonam and the late Raja Raghuvanshi from a flat belonging to Shilom James in Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem informed.
A laptop, pendrive and some incriminating papers were also found and seized.
When Raghuvanshi’s body was found early this month, his jewellery and other valuables were not found with the remains, suggesting that he was the victim of a violent robbery. However, now that his widow Sonam is the prime suspect along with four others, these valuables were probably removed to throw police off the scent as well as for their monetary value.
James, while not having had a direct role in the murder, is suspected of aiding and abetting the perpetrators by giving refuge to Sonam after the murder. He has been brought to Shillong and is in judicial custody.
“The electronic devices and documents seized hold significant evidentiary value and may shed further light on the May 23 murder case involving Sonam Raghuvanshi and her lover Raj Kushwaha,” Syiem added. (With PTI inputs)
