The Meghalaya Police will reconstruct the crime scene in Sohra on Tuesday as part of their probe into the murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi.
His wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha and three others– Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan and Anand Kurmi—are those arrested for allegedly conspiring to kill Raja during their honeymoon to Sohra in East Khasi Hills.
The crime scene reconstruction at 12 noon is part of a broader investigation codenamed ‘Operation Honeymoon’, launched by a special investigation team (SIT) that collected crucial evidence from multiple locations in Indore (Madhya Pradesh) and Ghazipur (Uttar Pradesh), where the accused were arrested.
The crime scene recreation is likely to take place at the parking lot near Wei Sawdong Falls in Sohra, where Raja’s body was recovered.
Sonam and Raja had ostensibly come to Meghalaya for their honeymoon after getting married on May 11. Although the couple had been missing since May 23-24, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed only after the man’s body was recovered on June 2.
Sonam, who was initially, reported missing in Meghalaya, surfaced in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur where she surrendered after her alleged accomplices were arrested for their alleged role in conspiring and killing Raja.
SIT investigation revealed that Raj was the mastermind behind the crime and Sonam was involved in it. The lovers plotted to kill Raja 11 days before the arranged marriage of Sonam and Raja.
Raj and the three other accused are friends and investigations have revealed that the trio were already paid Rs 50,000 for travel and accommodation in Shillong and Guwahati.
The SIT has termed the case “watertight”, with officials indicating that a chargesheet will be filed at record speed.
Meanwhile, Sonam was today taken to the Meghalaya Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (MIMHANS) in Lawmali, Shillong, for mental health assessment.
Sonam, Raj and others are currently in eight-day police custody.
