Editor,
I once used to believe that if not a hundred per cent at least some portion of the politicians and political parties of Meghalaya had a vision and a constitutional duty to look and think for the overall welfare of our State, and the same set of long-term vision amongst the civil society pressure groups.
Perhaps also with zeal to uplift the State and its damned society from the burden of unemployment and lack of economic development, but as it seems that after 51 years even newbie politicians have zero understanding of the State economy and how a State GDP increases or decreases.
The subject of allowing a railway network for goods and essential commodities is a very challenging and needed network for adding stimulus to existing traders, suppliers and consumers. There are several examples of how during calamities the rail network has helped communities in distress and also propelled the State’s economic contribution.
Those who shout for development and employment do not seem to be able to figure out the situation in the 21st century which is fast paced. The regressive mentality of blocking development at the end would result in more unemployment and lack of infrastructural improvement.
