Khliehriat, Oct 13: Sutnga-Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla today inaugurated the Pyrtakuna Water Supply Scheme (WSS) under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
The cost of the scheme is Rs 1.83 crores and through the project, at present, 107 households under Pyrtakuna village are able to receive functional tap water at their homes.
Addressing the gathering, Shylla congratulated officials of the PHE Department and residents of Pyrtakuna Village for fruition of the project funded under the JJM). She also sought the co-operation of stakeholders including officials, traditional heads and members of the public in conservation efforts of the water source by ensuring that areas nearby the source are maintained and not destroyed.
East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner Shivansh Awasthi in his speech stated that access to clean water in the household saves time, effort etc and helps prevent diseases caused due to water drawn from contaminated sources thus ensuring better health outcomes for citizens.
He expressed hope that the water supply remains continuous in future and emphasized on long term sustainability of water sources through convergence projects involving departments including Soil and Water Conservation and Water Resources departments.
