Shillong, Oct 13: North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum today met with Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar to highlight issues affecting Jaiaw Ehrngiew Transport Society (JETS 24X7), a local bike taxi aggregator.
According to Nongrum, the operation of unlicensed aggregators in violation of the Meghalaya Taxi Aggregator Operational Rules, 2020, and the delay in the issuance of allotment orders to operate in Meghalaya are affecting the bike taxi aggregator.
He told the Deputy CM, who is also in charge of transport, that inaction against illegal operators and unsystematic handling of the allotment process by the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) would encourage illegal business and pose safety risks to commuters.
Nongrum stated that Jets 24×7 has complied with all required formalities, yet there has been no progress for over 11 months. He urged the department to address the issues and ensure a fair and systematic approach to allotment, protecting the livelihoods of unemployed youth.
