Nineteen residents of Pynursla today alleged that the Rangbah Shnong of Pynursla, Mudonsing Khongthaw, has been functioning as the headman without obtaining the Sanad from the Syiem of Hima Khyrim.
Addressing reporters here, the residents said that they had been accused by the headman of interfering with the distribution of rice under the Public Distribution System (PDS) but claimed that this is a story made up by Khongthaw after they filed a complaint with the Sordar of Raid Shabong over the Sanad issue.
Khongthaw had been chosen periodically ever since 2005 but, they said, an Right to Information (RTI) request revealed that he never obtained the Sanad from the Syiem and can thus not function as a headman.
“We will not accept any dorbar or meeting called by the headman since he does not possess the Sanad and he is not recognised by the concerned authority and has no power to certify anything,” they maintained.
Meanwhile H Khongbuh, ex-Sordar of Pynursla, who is also among the 19, said that Khongthaw made a public announcement in the village saying that the distribution of the PDS rice was halted because of the doings of the 19 residents, which is baseless.
The headman reportedly created confusion among the residents about how to get the rations they are entitled to but, thankfully, the Sub-Divisional Officer ensured that the supply was not interrupted.
