The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) Shillong organised two publicity programmes in West Khasi Hills District on March 5 to promote cleanliness, environmental conservation, and a drug-free society.
The programmes, which were held at Pyndengrei and Don Bosco Technical School, focused on national themes such as Swachhata Hi Seva, Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Mission Life, Atmanirbhar Bharat and Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, and the vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
In Pyndengrei, over 60 villagers participated in a cleanliness drive, followed by an informative session on waste segregation. Albert Thongni, a Swachh Bharat volunteer, emphasised personal responsibility for waste management.
Didimus Nongsiej, the headman, highlighted the importance of community cooperation for a cleaner environment. Fruit trees were planted as part of the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam initiative, and a dance competition engaged the youth.
At Don Bosco Technical School, over 50 students participated in a talent show and a session on the dangers of drug abuse led by SI K. Mawlong from the Police Department. Mawlong encouraged students to stay drug-free and take a public oath to reject drugs.
Both events raised awareness on key issues and supported the Government of India’s mission for a cleaner, healthier, and drug-free society, contributing to the larger goal of Viksit Bharat.
