The public hearing conducted by Green Valley Industries Ltd also known as Max Cement passed off peacefully at Madan Pyrda of Chieruphi village, East Jaiñtia Hills.
The public hearing was called to seek public opinion on the proposal by Green Valley Industries Ltd to set up a limestone mine at Madan Pyrda in Chieruhphi. The area of the mine is 10.71 hectares and the proposed limestone quantity to be mined is 4,00,602 tons annually.
The proposal by the cement company was supported by the local villagers and the headman.
The public hearing was presided over by East Jaiñtia Hills Additional Deputy Commissioner Gautam Warjri and was attended by Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) Assistant Environmental Engineer Yoo Franky Laloo.
