The State BJP has slammed Shillong MP Vincent H Pala over his recent remark that the saffron party BJP abuses church leaders and asked him to prove or retract his statement.
The BJP said that his remark was unwarranted and a “misinformation campaign”.
“The Congress is well aware that their chances are fading with each passing day and the BJP’s fortunes are on a visible upswing. Such objectionable remarks are just a tactic to hoodwink the public and a desperate attempt to garner some sympathy votes,” BJP chief spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang stated.
He said people have seen through such games long back and will vote for true secularism.
Pala had recently remarked that the ideologies of the Voice of the People Party (VPP), and the BJP are akin. According to him, the BJP abuses church leaders and toeing that line, the VPP abuses the tymmen basan (church elders). He said both parties talk about religion and polarise voters.
However, the BJP chose to differ and said that its various state leaders of the party have been carrying out pro-Christian activities and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi “lavishes unparalleled praise on Jesus Christ and his teachings.”
“Meghalaya BJP has demanded that the sitting MP should either give one specific instance of disrespect to the Church by India’s ruling party or retract the statement immediately,” Kharkrang said.
