The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) celebrated 10 years of the Startup India Initiative today on the occasion of National Startup Day in New Delhi.
At the function a certificate of appreciation was conferred under the States’ Startup Ecosystem Ranking (5th Edition), recognising Meghalaya as a leader for its “outstanding efforts” in building a strong and vibrant startup ecosystem, a press release informed today. “This recognition reflects the state’s continued commitment to fostering entrepreneurship, innovation and startup-led growth.”
The ranking is a periodic capacity-building exercise instituted by DPIIT to evaluate and acknowledge the initiatives of states and Union territories in providing a conducive and sustainable atmosphere for the startup sector and innovation to flourish across the country. States and territories are categorised into Category A (population over 1 crore) and Category B (population under 1 crore) for the rankings.
In this year’s fifth edition, states and territories were assessed based on their performance across six reform areas and 19 action points taking into account criteria like policy support, institutional capacity, access to funding, incubation, mentorship and market linkages.
The Meghalaya government, through PRIME Meghalaya, has been “instrumental in the state’s entrepreneurship development by giving financial aid, establishing startups and providing mentorship support and market linking for the start-ups to get into the markets easily,” the release added. The main focus has been on the areas of innovation in the priority sectors like renewable energy, sustainability, climate action, agribusiness, tourism and rural livelihoods and also empowering and guiding support for young entrepreneurs throughout Meghalaya with training and mentoring services.
