Editor,
I am writing to bring to your attention and the public’s notice about the consistent power scarcity and load shedding that has been taking place in Meghalaya over the last few months. This is causing immense inconvenience to the people of Meghalaya and is affecting our daily lives.
Despite Meghalaya being an energy-rich State with significant hydroelectric power resources, the state is struggling to provide uninterrupted power supply to its people. The situation is becoming worse, especially during the hot summer months when households and industries alike are in need of consistent power supply.
The load shedding schedule announced by the State authorities is to last for as long as ten hours a day. This has led to difficulties, particularly for the students who have to bear the brunt of the load shedding and power cuts, leading to disruption of studies and impact on students’ learning.
The Power Department and the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited must take urgent measures to ensure an uninterrupted power supply to the people of Meghalaya. Also, it is crucial that the department exhaust all possible means such as alternative energy sources to meet the growing demands of the people of the State.
On behalf of the people of the State, I urge the government to take immediate and necessary action to resolve this problem. It is essential that the government finds a long-term solution, namely increasing the number of alternative energy sources within the State which will help in making it self-sufficient in the field of electricity.
Thank you for providing your platform for the public matter and your attention to the concern.
