In a bid to restore peace and tranquility among the Pnars and Karbis in Khanduli village of West Jaintia Hills, a peace meeting was held today at the Khanduli border outpost of Assam police.
A large number of representatives from the Pnar community were present at the meeting. However, there were fewer participants from the Karbi community as most did not get prior information regarding the meeting.
The meeting which was attended by the Deputy Commissioners of West Jaintia Hills and West Karbi Anglong along with police officials and other officials of the two districts discussed ways and means to ease the ongoing tension between the two communities in Khanduli.
In view of the prevailing situation, it was decided that both the district administrations of West Jaintia Hills and West Karbi Anglong would work hand in hand to bring back peace and normalcy in the area.
Since there was less participation from the Karbis at today’s meeting, it was decided to convene another peace meeting at the earliest between the two communities and till such time, both the communities have been urged to maintain peace and not resort to any action that may flare up tension.
