The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has called for establishment of Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs) in East Jaintia Hills for skill training and upgradation of the youth to mitigate unemployment problem which is prevalent in the district.
District president Deihok Sumer met with the convener of the State Level Bankers Committees (SLBC) with a plea to address the issue of employment. They said setting up of such institutes would enhance the job placement at various institutions, and serve as an encouragement for youth to start up new venture of work as per their skills achieved through training.
The FKJGP said that job opportunities in the district lack due to the absence of job employment machinery. While there are no vacancies for government jobs, the cement companies can engage only a limited number of youths.
