The Meghalaya State Planning Board is making concerted efforts to finalise its recommendations aimed at easing the growing traffic congestion in Shillong city.
Responding to queries on the long-pending traffic issues that were first taken up by the board last year, its Chairman Metbah Lyngdoh MLA today informed that multiple meetings have already been held, with active involvement from various departments.
“We have discussed the issue of traffic congestion at length in two to three meetings. The Planning Board is currently examining all points and reviewing the actions taken by different departments, which are all integral to solving the problem,” he said.
He assured that the board is working towards closing the exercise at the earliest. “We will definitely come up with a set of recommendations, which will be submitted to the government for further consideration and implementation in Shillong city,” Lyngdoh added.
When asked if any major suggestions had been finalised, he said that it would be premature to disclose anything at this stage. “I will not be able to say right now because the Board is yet to sit one more time to arrive at a final conclusion regarding the recommendations,” he stated.
