Physically disabled students who performed exceptionally well were felicitated and given financial support at a programme yesterday by the Raid Laban Sports Social and Cultural Organisation.
Others who excelled at para arm wrestling were also honoured.
The programme was attended by representatives of various schools, colleges, Dorbar Shnongs, village councils and NGOs of South Shillong constituency including parents, guardians and teachers.
Local MLA and organisation president Sanbor Shullai donated one month’s salary of Rs 2 lakh for sports materials and gift hampers to the students of Fernando Speech and Hearing Centre, Umniuh-khwan in Ri-Bhoi, Bethany Society School in Laitumkhrah, Shillong, Jyoti Sroat School in Laitumkhrah, Shillong and Lumparing Vidyapith Secondary School, Shillong.
The recipient of the biggest share of money was Prisca Pyngrope of Bethany Society School, who represented Meghalaya at the 26th World Para Arm Wrestling Championship 2024 in Moldova. She received Rs 1 lakh.
The programme ended with the special felicitation of George Arthur Warjri, the veteran and longest serving adviser of the organisation.
