Vehicle owners in the State have heaved a sigh of relief after the price of petrol and diesel came down from today.
The Central government has cut excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per litre and on diesel by Rs 6 per litre, reducing the price of petrol by Rs 9.5 per litre and of diesel by Rs 7 per litre.
With this excise cut, the price of petrol in Meghalaya has come down to Rs 95.14 from Rs 103.56 per litre.
The price of diesel in the State has dropped to Rs 83.13 from Rs 89.55 per litre.
The State government had on November 6, 2021 reduced the value-added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel by Rs 5.20 per litre each.
The State government in February 2021 had already slashed VAT on petrol from 31.62 per cent or Rs 17.60 per litre to 20 per cent, and from 22.59 per cent or Rs 12.50 per litre to 12 per cent on diesel.
