Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Vincent H Pala has stated that the party is not averse to someone willing to rejoin its fold but it is the prerogative of the central leadership to decide.
“We have a system that anybody can join the party but there are certain categories of leaders where the AICC has to take a call,” the MPCC president said.
Contradictory statements have recently emerged from the Congress whether Trinamool Congress leader and former Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma and others who left the party will be re-accommodated into the party.
While Leader of the Opposition, Ronnie V Lyngdoh had recently said the Congress will accommodate anyone, including Dr Sangma, newly elected Tura MP Saleng Sangma said he will not be allowed to rejoin the party.
Pala said both the comments were “correct” but the Congress has a system. “The system will decide. We will not discriminate nor hesitate we will work and talk together. Congress is big hearted and it is for every individual,” he added.
“You have seen 80 per cent of the cabinet in Conrad Sangma’s government comes from the Congress. The party is like a platform, people can utilise it to gain experience,” he said, adding that the Congress win in Tura has changed the political scenario the state.
The term “Congress is a sinking ship” has changed… the political dynamics have changed even throughout the country, Pala said. However, in the face of all the changes, he said there is a need for cooperation among all the MPs in the interest of Meghalaya.
“We are here for the people, not to fight. We are here for a common cause,” he added.
