Landowners along the Pynursla bypass, whose property is required as part of the Shillong-Dawki road project, have agreed to part with their land for the international road link.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who holds the Public Works Department portfolio, said that this stretch of the road was on hold for quite some time because of the unyielding owners.
With the agreement, the final alignment was forwarded to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) and the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) for approval.
Meanwhile, on the deteriorating condition of National Highway 6, which is never out of the news for very long, Tynsong said that he has already apprised the Secretary of MORTH about the situation of the deplorable road even though he added that maintenance work is good.
As far as the frequent landslides around the Sonapur tunnel, he said that the Secretary of the ministry and a team from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will inspect the area before the monsoon.
