The State Bank of India (Regional Business office Shillong urban) in collaboration with the Bantei Ia Ka Lawei Baphyrnai Multipurpose Co-operative Society planted more than 4500 tree saplings at Umrynjah, East Khasi Hills district.
The initiative which aims towards promoting environment sustainability is part of the SBI’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) activity under the tree plantation (afforestation) programme.
While SBI assured that such an initiative will continue to other parts of the state, the society made a commitment to nurture and take care of all the tree saplings as the planting season comes to an end.
Both made an appeal to the citizens of the state to be vigilant of wildfires that pose a major threat to environment sustainability.
SBI Chief Manager (Operations) Biswadeep Dutta, SLBC Chief Manager Shemphang Lyngdoh, Lead Bank Manager Montu Goswami and members of the society were present at the programme.
