Nongpoh, Oct 28: Ri Bhoi police seized 206.054 kg of marijuana from a vehicle in the wee hours today.
According to police, the driver abandoned the vehicle, a Maruti Espresso bearing registration number AS 01 EG 7234, after spotting a team at the checkpoint at around 12:40 am.
An occupant also managed to escape with the driver.
During a search, the contraband packed in 28 bundles were recovered from the vehicle.
Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the absconding individuals involved in the illegal transportation of the drug, police said.
A detailed investigation into the case under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been launched.
