The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall likely over Northeast during March 19-22.
Owing to the heavy rain forecasts, the IMD has placed an orange alert over three (South West Khasi Hills, East Khasi Hills and East Jaiñtia Hills) districts of Meghalaya on March 19-20, so as to urge the locals to “be prepared” for the inclement weather.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner and Chairperson (DDMA) East Khasi Hills District has released a four-pointer advisory for people to take precautions with the onset of windy season and to avoid any incidences.
People are urged to check their houses, secure loose tiles and carry out repairs of doors and windows.
Remove dead branches or dying trees close to the house, avoid any incidences especially fire, get wiring/electricity properly checked.
Ensure safe keeping of all objects such as lumber piles, loose tin sheets, bricks, garbage cans, sign boards etc, which can fly away during strong winds, the advisory said.
