College principals, students and pressure groups are all seized of the need to introduce the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, with the Meghalaya College Teachers Association (MCTA) the only holdouts, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Vice-Chancellor Prof PS Shukla said today.
Shukla said that, as far as he knows, there are no principals who are unwilling to implement the NEP. However, there are a couple whose colleges have expressed their inability to implement it from this academic year.
“If any college is not in a position, they will have the chance to implement the NEP next year and the university is ready to take the burden in the interest of the youth of the state,” Shukla said, adding that this is what was meant when a ‘hybrid mode’ of NEP implementation was talked about.
The VC said that he remains open to holding discussions with the MCTA, which has boycotted teaching first semester students because of what it sees as irregularities in the way NEHU decided to introduce the NEP 2020 from the new academic session on August 1.
“I’m ready to discuss with anyone, including the MTCA. I’ve already discussed the matter with the KSU, NEHUSU, HYC, FKJGP and everybody is convinced for the benefit of the youth of the state,” Shukla said.
It is in the interest of the students alone that the NEP is being introduced from this year, he maintained, and it is they who will suffer after graduation when they apply for jobs or further studies.
