Nongpoh, Oct 24: Schools in Ri-Bhoi will soon receive special toilets exclusively for girl students.
This initiative follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) today between the district administration and Oil India Ltd (OIL) for the implementation of this project.
Speaking to the media, Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal said that the approval for constructing these 47 toilets came shortly after the visit of Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, to Ri-Bhoi. During his visit, a request was made to the minister to help provide separate toilets for girl students. Acting on this, Puri instructed OIL to take up the initiative, which has now led to the signing of the MoU.
He further informed that the MoU was signed between the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) and OIL, with a sanctioned budget of Rs 72 lakh.
