The State government has decided to release names with roll numbers and marks of all the candidates who appeared for the staff nurse recruitment exam.
This was announced by Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh to the aggrieved nurses who met her today to air their dissatisfaction with the results declared on September 28.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, nurse Lurstep Nongrum said the government would stop the physical verification of qualified candidates before releasing the result list with all details and candidates will be given 10 days to file complaints with the grievances cell before taking a final decision on the appointment.
He said that, above all, if the nurses who appeared for the recruitment exam are not satisfied with the entire process, the government will take a decision.
The candidates are aggrieved with the results that lacked crucial details such as candidate names, marks and categories. Besides the declaration of the results were made after 144 hours instead of the agreed-upon 72 hours.
Nongrum further said that they have also urged the minister that only candidates who are citizens of Meghalaya should be allowed to apply for vacancies available in the State.
Meanwhile the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Employment Monitoring Cell has demanded the government to scrap the results and to initiate departmental proceedings against the person(s) involved in the scrutiny and publication of the results, which was declared twice in a day.
In a memorandum to the minister, the KSU said that there were 46 roll numbers which were added to the second result and seven roll numbers that appeared twice. “The repetition of roll numbers cannot be deemed as any clerical errors but it is utmost certain that the eligible list has been fabricated with. The declaration of two results on the same day also sparks ambiguity and manipulation of the eligible candidates,” the union said.
The KSU also questioned the competency of the Meghalaya Medical Services Recruitment Board and said, “The date for physical verification for some roll numbers is mentioned to be in the year 2025, 2026, …, 2028 which is totally obnoxious from the recruitment board. This shows the level of incompetence among authorities responsible for declaring the results.”
The KSU also said that the board instead of selecting only the total number of candidates against the total vacancies, it went on to add senseless number of candidates. “The Supreme Court of India in its various judgements for direct recruitment has cited that waiting list or additional list against the total strength of vacancies is not permissible and any deviation thereof is subjected to judicial review. It can be seen in the list of selected candidates for staff nurse the total vacancies is 164, out of which 25 is for unreserved or open category against which 75 candidates are selected for physical verification, 66 is for Khasi-Jaintia category against which 217 candidates are selected, 65 is for Garo category against which 215 candidates are selected and the same is for OST/SC and Sports category,” the union stated.
“This is done with a malicious intention of favouring certain candidates under the pretext of ambiguity of a large number of selected candidates. There is no reason for selecting more than the required candidates against the total vacancies as the method of selection is purely based on the written examination and it is to be based on merit, and thus the only reason for doing so is to give room to select undeserved candidates. This is also the same for ANM,” it added.
It further demanded that employment opportunities by the State Government must only be confined to the domiciles of Meghalaya.
