The Corporeal Health Solutions (CHS) team under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) in Meghalaya has embarked on an intensified screening drive across three districts of the state.
The screening drive involves field coordinators, technicians, and mobile X-ray units navigating challenging terrain to reach isolated villages of Ri Bhoi, East Garo Hills, South Garo Hills, and adjoining districts.
“Despite heavy monsoon rains and damaged roads, the teams are using boats and trekking on foot to conduct TB screening camps, equipped with portable digital X-ray machines and diagnostic tools,” officials said today.
The aim is to identify and treat “missing” TB cases, particularly among hard-to-reach populations, and break the chain of undetected transmission.
Health authorities urge residents to attend the camps, emphasising early detection is critical for effective treatment and preventing further spread.
“The state government continues to prioritize community engagement and awareness in its TB elimination strategy, with health workers playing a vital role in bridging the gap between services,” officials said.
