The National People’s Party (NPP), which is the major ally of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance coalition government, felicitated new party members in the presence of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma here today.
State NPP president and Rajya Sabha MP, Wanwei Roy Kharlukhi, and other senior party officials were also present.
One of those felicitated was Biolinda Lyngdoh Nonglait, who unsuccessfully contested the Mawthadraishan seat in the 2018 elections where she placed second, losing out to current cabinet minister Brolding Nongsiej by fewer than 2,000 votes. She had run on a HSPDP ticket then.
“The coming in of new members to the party is a bonus and would leverage for the upcoming 2023 elections,” Sangma was quoted as saying in a press release.
“Time is still on our side and we need to ramp up the groundwork not to fall short on our commitments,” he added.
