Even with a series of by-poll loss the Congress party in the state still believes it still has the energy and vitality to make a break through again.
The grand old party suffered a loss at Mawryngkneng and Rajabala by polls and has for the third time in a row since 2018 lost four seats in by-elections.
State Congress working president Ampareen Lyngdoh said that even though the party did not win the by-polls its vote shares have increased this time than the last elections.
“The by-poll result is not the end of the road and Congress will further strengthen its party and see that the loyal soldiers of the party will not run away because of money and false promises,” she told Highland Post.
Lyngdoh said members who left the grand old party to contest the by-polls are “victims” of modern politics and expressed concern on their fate questioning, “What will happen to the political career of those victims who lost and where will they now go?”
Stating that she does not consider them traitors but victims duped by various false promises given by the other parties in terms of money, tickets, etc.
“Where will the MDCs who won from the Congress now go? Will there be a pre-poll alliance and vote shares in 2023 or will they stand alone?” quipped.
