A one day North East conclave was held today, organised by the Meghalaya State Rural Livelihoods Society (MSRLS) in collaboration with The/Nudge Institute, Bangalore.
The conclave deliberated on how to strengthen ecosystems for inclusive development of the most excluded and brought together stakeholders, State Rural Livelihood Missions (SRLM) of the North East states, sector experts, academics, policymakers and civil societies.
Dignitaries included Charanjit Singh, Additional Secretary of the Union Ministry of Rural Development and Abu Taher Mondal, Meghalaya’s Community and Rural Development Minister. Others in attendance included Special Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh, B Rajsekhar, Development Commissioner of Meghalaya Sampath Kumar, as well as representatives of the NRLMs from Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Bihar and Jharkhand.
Mondal highlighted that there are numerous livelihood opportunities for the rural communities and cited an example of Khweng village in Ri-Bhoi, where practitioners of traditional embroidery have partnered with USHA International for mass production.
The event was highlighted by key strategy talks from the dignitaries as well as panel discussions talks from the various civil societies and institutions with respect to livelihood and gender inclusion of the most excluded.
