Task Force Shnong in collaboration with Seng Samla Bhalang Nongkhyriem, Shillong celebrated the sixth year of Swachh Nongkhyriem Swachh Bharat yesterday coinciding with the 152nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
During the programme, local residents of Nongthymmai Nongkhyriem and shopkeepers carried out cleaning of their surroundings, lanes and all the stretch of the national highway along the locality.
A function was later held at the multipurpose hall of the locality which was attended by Sam Hynniewta, IEC Consultant of Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin, Shillong, members of Task Force Nongkhyriem and functionaries of Seng Samla Nongkhyriem.
Local resident Jovial Mukhim was awarded for ‘Slogan Competition’. Similarly, awards were given to seven local sweepers for keeping the locality clean. They include Kupertly Hynniewta, Francis Marbaniang, Shotsing Diengdoh, Philisi Nongrum, Margaret Khyriem, Bhasimai Syiem and Rikynti Kharkongor.
Speeches were also delivered by Task Force convener John C. Cajee, Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin IEC Consultant Sam Hynniewta and Seng Samla Nongkhyriem general secretary Synsharlang L. Rngaid.
Swachh Nongkhyriem Swachh Bharat was launched in 2015 by Seng Samla Bhalang Nongkhyriem with the objective of maintaining cleanliness in the locality.
