The non-teaching staff of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has demanded immediate resignation of the incumbent Vice Chancellor, Prof SK Srivastava.
In a press release here today, the staff under the banner of the North Eastern Hill University Non-teaching Staff Association (NEHUNSA) stated that the VC was not available in his office since December 24.
“His actions and regular absence prove that he is not at all interested in performing the expected and required administrative works. The University is suffering since the Head of the Institute is not available and capable to take able decisions. Since December 24, till date Prof SK Srivastava is not available in the office,” NEHUNSA president, Dr Wandondor R Synrem said.
According to the staff, it becomes difficult for the association to discuss important issues related to the welfare of the employees and the university as a whole.
“We observed that the whole University system is falling and failing due to the unavailability of the Vice-Chancellor. Even the appointments of important advertised posts are delayed due to the lack of interest of the Vice Chancellor,” Synrem said.
NEHUNSA had also sent a letter to the VC asking him to “gracefully tender his resignation” to pave way for the senior-most professor to take over the University, who shall be available for discussion and implement policies that can bring about bold and concrete decisions in favor of the employees and the university.
