Methina Farida Marak, the Nokma of Resu A’king, Resubelpara, donated a land parcel of 106 acres to the Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (MIDC).
This land will be utilized for the development of a state-of-the-art logistics park, aimed at boosting the logistics sector of the state and contributing to its overall economic growth.
MIDC Chairman James P.K. Sangma expressed his gratitude towards the Nokma and the clan for their collaborative spirit.
“This is a great initiative from the Nokma. We are grateful to her and the clan for coming forward and engaging with MIDC for carrying out developmental initiatives in her village, which will also be of great importance for Meghalaya,” he said in a statement.
“Having a logistics park is the need of the hour. This can greatly improve the state’s logistics sector by lowering overall freight costs and time, cutting warehousing costs, reducing vehicular pollution and congestion, and improving the tracking and traceability of consignments through infrastructural, procedural, and information technology interventions. I am thankful to the Nokma for her forward-thinking approach,” he added.
Abraham V J, Chairperson of the Nokma Advisory Committee, highlighted the significance of this project in the context of local youth development.
“Under the leadership of our Nokma, we have been able to undertake many initiatives in the past for the development of the local youth. But this project will be the largest of such initiatives so far and we are happy we have MIDC as partners for this project,” he said.
The donation of land by the Nokma is a landmark step towards fostering community partnerships that can lead to sustainable development and prosperity in Meghalaya.
The initiative is seen as a model of community involvement in state development, setting a precedent for future collaborations between local leaders and development agencies.
