In exercise of the power conferred under Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act 1951, all public meetings, processions, rallies, etc in connection with the February 27 Assembly election or display of “election matter” by means of cinematography, television or similar apparatus, etc or propagation of any election matter to the public by way of holding musical concerts, theatrical performances, etc will be prohibited “during the period of 48 hours before the close of the poll”.
This was informed through an order today by the District Election Officer of East Khasi Hills. Any violation will be dealt with strictly as per Section 126 (2) of the Representation of the People Act 1951.
