Shillong, Apr 19: Former Nongthymmai MLA Jemino Mawthoh, who is also the ex-general secretary of the United Democratic Party (UDP), has denied reports that he is joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying he has not made a decision yet.
Speaking to HP recently, Mawthoh said he must consult his supporters and well-wishers before making a move.
“I am yet to call for a meeting with my supporters to solicit their views and opinions. Only after this will a decision be taken,” he said.
Mawthoh held the Nongthymmai seat until 2018 when he lost the election. His subsequent runs for office have been unsuccessful, having lost the Lok Sabha election in 2019 and the 2023 Assembly polls as well.
Mawthoh acknowledged discussions with various parties, including the Congress, BJP and ruling National People’s Party (NPP) but stressed that the decision is a collective one.
“It’s important to discuss with my supporters and look for the best option to serve the people. We can’t join a party without consultation and considering the best option,” he added.
