The Federation of Khasi, Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP) has reminded the district administration of East Jaiñtia Hills of the need for permanent repairs to a stretch of National Highway 6 that was damaged two years ago.
The Khliehriat circle of the pressure group told the Deputy Commissioner through a missive that the highway was damaged due to heavy rainfall in June 2021. The FKJGP also blamed the quality of construction for the slippage, which has created problems for people using the road.
Despite nearly two years having gone by, the road is still yet to be properly repaired and this causes frequent traffic jams in the area as well as a continuing fear in the minds of the people as to the safety of that particular stretch of road, the organisation said.
