A conglomeration of NGOs has decided to ban entry of coal trucks during the day in Baghmara under South Garo Hills district.
The NGOs comprising of the Garo Students Union, Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People and Association for Democracy and Empowerment in a statement today said movement of coal laden trucks happen during school and office hours despite a timeslot being allotted to them.
“The timeslot for coal trucks is from 8 am to 10 am and 2 pm to 4 pm. Despite that, the trucks were seen moving in large numbers all throughout the day in the municipal area creating so many problems,” the NGOs said in a release, adding, “Therefore we have decided to completely ban entry of coal trucks during the daytime.”
