Chief Minister designate Conrad K Sangma said that his new government will focus on the economy and resolving the border dispute with Assam.
Sangma said that the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance 2.0 government will channel its energies into certain sectors in order to ensure that a large number of job opportunities are created in the state.
MDA 1 opened a 3,000 seater call centre and Business Process Outsourcing IT park and, in the next five years, Sangma said the target will be 20,000 seats.
“We have already sanctioned 5,000 more seats. I’m not saying we can do it (the 20,000 seats) but it’s my target and goal,” he said.
Sangma also said that he wants to push the tourism sector to greater heights, boost value addition in agriculture, strengthen education and health and “focus on the social sectors as well”.
His government will also aim to ensure that every household has piped water and that every village is connected with roads and electricity.
Meanwhile, he also promised that the government will resolve the border differences with Assam at the earliest.
“Once the swearing-in ceremony is done (tomorrow), the cabinet will meet and then we will decide. But, of course, our objective will be to resolve the border issue within the span of five years beside various other issues,” he told reporters.
