The North East Indigenous People’s Forum (NEIPF) has appealed to all organisations in the region to refrain from making statements that jeopardise the communal harmony of the indigenous people of the North East, especially during this time of social unrest in Manipur.
The NEIPF made the statement today after fear and apprehension led to the departure of members of the Meitei community from Mizoram following a press release by the Peace Accord MNF Returnees’ Association (PAMRA).
The Mizoram government clarified that the statement was an advisory note of caution for the Meitei community living in Manipur, not a threat. However, a follow-up statement by the All Assam Manipur Students Union (AAMSU) has led the NEIPF to issue its note of caution “to do away with such statements that create mistrust among the indigenous people of the North East.”
