Meghalaya Tribal Teachers’ Association (MeTTA) members at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) have endorsed the NEHU Students’ Union (NEHUSU) demand to terminate the service of the university Registrar, Col (Retd) Omkar Singh.
MeTTA also supports the NEHU Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) demand for removal of the two newly-appointed Deputy Registrars who they claim are incompetent and unfit to run the administration.
In a press statement issued today, MeTTA stated that it also expresses its concerns on the current situation in NEHU on matters relating to the alleged irregularities in functioning of the Registrar and Deputy Registrars. These officers “have no knowledge of the rules, regulations and administrative procedures,” the association stated.
According to MeTTA, there were many qualified and experienced candidates serving in different departments of the state government who had applied for the posts of Deputy Registrar but were rejected. Instead a “mediocre” candidate “who has no experience in the university administration has been appointed as Deputy Registrar,” it stated.
It also alleged that in the recent appointment of contractual posts in the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) there were many qualified candidates who were not called for the interview, whereas candidates who were not qualified were appointed.
