Shillong, Jan 4: The ongoing leadership crisis at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has precipitated a state of administrative paralysis, which significantly undermines the institution’s operational efficacy and overall integrity.
While NEHU’s Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA), Students ’ Union (NEHUSU) want the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the varsity’s Tura campus Prof FK Marak to assume charge at the NEHU headquarters here, there has been no official response.
NEHUTA President Prof. Lakhon Kma told Highland Post that stakeholders will meet on Monday to discuss the issue. He said absence of PVC has led to concerns about the university’s administration, with no Registrar (In-charge) and a vacant Vice-Chancellor post for 401 days.
In December, the associations cited NEHU Statute 2(A)(5)(i) to urge the senior-most Pro-VC, Marak, to ensure continuity of administration. They had requested her to assume charge within 24 hours.
Kma said that the PVC cannot run the university from Tura and must be present at the headquarters. He said the stakeholders are considering further action if the situation is not resolved.
