The Research Forum of the English Department of NEHU organised a “Meet the Author” live interactive session with noted author Dhruba Hazarika yesterday.
In the candid interaction with the students, scholars and teachers, he spoke at length about Northeast Literature, creative process of a writer and also about the Shillong of ‘70s when he was a student of St. Edmund’s and how his Shillong days inspired him to write his stories.
The aim of the programme is to to bring back the academic vibrancy to the university campus after the prolonged Covid lockdown.
The session was chaired by noted poet, Prof. Esther Syiem in the presence of Prof. JyotirmoyProdhani, Head of the Department and others.
A gold medalist from NEHU in Economics Honours from St Edmund’s College and also a gold medalist in Economics MA from Gauhati University in 1979, Dhruba Hazarika is one of the early authors from Northeast to have published his fiction from a major publication house like Penguin Random House.
His first novel, Bowstring Winter, was published in 2006 by Penguin, which was based on his Shillong experiences. His other two novels include Sons of Brahma, which was about insurgency in Assam and Luck, his collection of short stories which is a part of the NEHU syllabus.
