The Meghalaya High Court has decided to wait for the report of the two-member committee set up to enquire into the imbroglios in the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU).
While hearing the PIL on the NEHU issue today, the division bench of Chief Justice Indra Prassana Mukerji and Justice B Bhattacharjee noted that it was satisfied that the hunger strike by a section of students of NEHU has been called off after pronouncement of its order on November 20.
Since the Education Ministry has decided to constitute a two-member committee to enquire into the allegations against the vice chancellor and also administrative irregularities within NEHU, the High Court said, “We think that at this stage, it would be fit and proper for this Court to wait for the report of the committee, its recommendations and any “corrective actions” if any that may be recommended by the committee and taken by the University.”
The Court also said since the stipulated time of 15 days was set for the committee to submit its inquiry report, which ends on November 29, the situation will be reviewed in its next hearing on December 6.
