Shillong, Aug 19: The North East Centre for Technology Application & Reach (NECTAR) showcased its technology-driven initiatives during the monthly meeting of the inter-media publicity coordination committee held at its headquarters here on Tuesday.
Director General Dr. Arun Kumar Sarma briefed officials on NECTAR’s work on saffron cultivation in Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Mizoram, and on the Mobile Food Processing Unit designed to take processing and value-addition facilities to farmers in remote areas. The mobile unit supports handling, value addition, bottling, packaging and tetra-pack solutions to improve post-harvest management.
Following the meeting, participants visited the Vasundhara Soil Lab, STEM Lab, GIS Lab and Mobile Processing Unit. NECTAR officials briefed them on how scientific, technological and geospatial solutions are being applied to address local challenges across the Northeast.
The meeting was convened by PIB Shillong as part of its regional IMPCC initiative to strengthen coordination and information sharing among government departments and media units. Representatives from IIM Shillong, ICAR-Umiam, NEEPCO, IMD Shillong, ICAR, Akashvani and other organisations attended and shared updates.
Participants stressed the need for greater inter-departmental coordination and collaborative media outreach for wider dissemination of government initiatives. It was also decided that all departments would observe Hindi Diwas and Hindi Fortnight in September 2026 with appropriate programmes.
