Muster roll workers and labourers in Jaiñtia Hills will meet tomorrow to discuss on the delay of payment of wages and implementation of the Meghalaya Regular Casual workers scheme 1996.
All Jaiñtia Muster Roll Workers & Labour Union Adviser has taken up the issue with the Chief Engineer of PHE recently but with no response.
According to the union, the delay of payment wages is against the office memorandum issued by the government on July 7, 2020 which directs streamlining of payment of wages.
The union said the office of the PHE made payment for just 25 days for September 2023 to the daily minimum wage workers engaged at the office of the Executive Engineer (RWS) Jowai and its subdivision.
Urging the office to pay the remaining dues the union said the workers are distressed as they have to care of the education of their children for the next school session and their other daily needs.
The union is also demanding inclusion of daily mini-wage workers as members and benefit from the Meghalaya Building & Other Constructions Welfare Board (BOCWB) under the Labour department.
